Last Tuesday, May 28th, Nexes participated in the conference “Games as a tool for community action”, organized by the General Directorate of Civic and Community Action of the Generalitat. The event had more than 100 people attending and marked the International Game Day. The conference brought together experts and professionals to explore the benefits of games and its application in the construction of more cohesive and inclusive communities. We had the pleasure of sharing the day with other high-level speakers, such as the wonderful Imma Marín, and together with other entities and centers that also use games as a means to pursue social impact, such as Ludoteques de Barcelona or Sida Estudi. The conference began at 9:00 the opening speech of Imma Marin, founder and president of Marinva and the International Play Association (IPA) in Spain. After a short break, at 11:45 a table of experiences took place where several professionals shared their initiatives and projects. Among the outstanding speakers were Albert, project manager in the area of Culture of Pau de Nexes, trainer and promoter of educational games. During his speech, Albert presented how Nexes uses games in different contexts to promote interculturality, inclusion and community participation. At Nexes we use a variety of games adapted to different age groups and needs in order to address different social problems that concern us. These games not only serve as a playful activity but are designed with the aim of promoting empathy, reflection on a problem and, finally, extracting learning from it. We also encourage the development of skills through games and game design processes, in which the participants get to create new board games. We have 8 different games created, which we energize in educational centers and other spaces, on gender and privileges, fake news and disinformation, social entrepreneurship or the Palestinian conflict, among others. Check out our catalog to find out more and don’t hesitate to ask us if you are interested in any of the games! Throughout Albert´s speech explained how we use games as a pedagogical tool to achieve a social impact, different from the games and anecdotes that we have accumulated over recent years. The closing ceremony was led by Rosa Sans, head of the Activity Programming and Promotion Service, and other speakers such as Laura Veciana, Clara Martínez, Glòria Martínez and Imma Gomila. This day was not only an opportunity to share experiences and learning, but also to establish new collaborations and synergies between entities and professionals committed to community action. We are very happy to have had the opportunity to participate in this day and reaffirm our commitment to the use of games as a means of building a fairer, more inclusive and more intercultural society. A video of the day will soon be published, we will share it with you. Long live the game!
