In January, we hosted a group of 10 young people from the Czech Republic who will stay in the city of Barcelona for the next 3 months. They are participants in the ALMA programme, funded by the European Social Fund. This programme aims to provide greater opportunities for personal and professional development and access to the world of work for young people in vulnerable situations. For many of the people in the group it is the first time they find themselves doing an international experience without their family. All this pushes them to: adapt to a reality that they did not know and where another language is spoken, to become independent and responsible, as well as to develop transversal competences such as conflict resolution, time management, initiative, etc. During the first few weeks: we welcomed them to Nexes and we prepared them for their stay in Barcelona in a work context. Meanwhile, they acquired basic linguistic notions of Spanish, were able to get to know companies, as well as they have been able to enjoy the first sociocultural activities in order to know more about Catalan culture. Specifically, in terms of the labour specialization sector it is different according to the interests of each person: communication, warehouse and sale of products in shops, tourism, art, education, and others. Throughout their stay in Barcelona, we accompany them in their discovery and take care of their learning process. We have prepared a series of challenges that will have to be met, through the Cities of Learning application. At the end of their stay they will obtain a variety of Badges according to the competences they have been developing, demonstrating how they have achieved it. We wish them to continue learning and taking advantage of this experience in Barcelona with all the opportunities that the ALMA program offers them.
