Presenting Chace Cleveland

13/02/2025 | Nexes Interculturals

Hello, I’m Chace Cleveland! Back in the United States where I’ve lived all my life, my peers generally think of me as a fun-loving yet diligent agent for economic and racial equity. Here in Barcelona volunteering at Nexes Interculturals, I intend to be much the same, only now I look forward to the opportunities ahead to become a more informed global citizen.

A core part of my identity lies within my home institution, Morehouse College, in Atlanta, Georgia. Morehouse is the only college in the world especially dedicated to educating Black men. During my schooling, I found my core values of stability, justice, and equity, and learned that there is power in understanding my culture, heritage, and history as a Black man. Now, volunteering in Spain, I hope to learn the backgrounds of its diverse inhabitants so I can understand the interconnectedness of our vast world. Furthermore, I strive to comprehend how I, and Black people as a whole, fit within it.

I feel privileged to be a working on the Migrantour project, a solution that uses the power of education to create equity by destroying ignorance. As an ambassador for prison education back in the Atlanta, I’ve witnessed firsthand the transformative power of education to change the trajectories of incarcerated individuals.

I look forward to being a part of the solution to empower residents and ameliorate damaging narratives in the Barcelona community. Most of all, I am eager to hear stories from Barcelona residents and my coworkers. Through cultural exchange, I hope to create memories and impacts that will persist beyond my short time here!
