Hi everyone!
My name is Ares, and at the end of March I started my internship at Nexes Interculturals.
I’m a fourth-year Philosophy, Politics and Economics student, and this year I started a Minor in International and Intercultural Studies, since I wanted to specialise in the field of interculturality and its intersections with gender, class, functional diversity, among others. Now that I’m almost done with my degree, I’ve realised that the time has come to decide which direction I want to take in my future – professionally, academically, and personally. However, I’ve also seen that I’m soon going to find myself in a kind of void, facing a future that, from where I stand now, feels very uncertain.
That’s why, in an attempt not to let fear take over or make a rushed decision, I decided to look for an internship that could interest me, guide me, and inspire me. I saw this as an opportunity to find some clues for the path I want to follow after finishing my studies. While deciding where I wanted to do my internship, I asked myself what it was in the world that I truly couldn’t leave unchanged.
I decided to make my choice based on this reflection because, as I’ve grown older, I’ve come to understand that no matter how calmly or deliberately we try to act, most of the time, it is anger that drives our actions. This happens because anger is the emotion that best protects us from injustice – it’s the emotion in which what truly matters to us becomes encapsulated; those injustices we simply cannot ignore.
For this reason, in my internship at Nexes, I hope to respond to this anger by getting involved in projects that allow me to combat glaring injustices such as racism, xenophobia, and sexism, among many other -isms that we all know and experience in one way or another. I believe that through questioning, reflecting, and taking on both individual and collective responsibility, we can build the active participation necessary to develop projects with local impact, while remaining aware that we are part of trends with a global reach.
