From 4 to 6 November, Nexes Interculturals organised in Barcelona the Migrantour International Seminar, gathering 30 participants from 11 countries, involving Migrantour project coordinators and intercultural guides.
In the framework of the Erasmus+ Programme, this three-day event focused on fostering inclusive narratives around migration and empowering people with diverse migration backgrounds.
The seminar featured a blend of insightful discussions, interactive workshops, and site visits that highlighted Barcelona’s vibrant multicultural landscape.
Each of the 3 days was dedicated to a topic:
- Migration and anti-immigrant sentiment,
- Migration and intersectionality,
- Migration and narratives that invite to dialogue.
The daily programme proposed each day a similar structure: always we were starting with an inspiring Migrantour Talk (with a format like the TED talks, with questions and debate after the speech), continued with an exploring activity (mapping or workshops), a visit and a moment of harvesting in the afternoon. The dinners were taking place in places that promote social initiatives and are part of the Social and Solidarity Economy ecosystem.
So we had the chance to listen to the inspiring talks of Martín Habiague, Diara Ballo and Cheikh Drame; work together on mapping the challenges of migrant in the countries of participants; explore intersectionality and migration; focus on experiences with institutional racism, that influences everyday narratives, and how to challenge these harmful patterns; follow guided walking tours in Raval and Poble Sec, showcasing the transformative power of Migrantour routes in promoting dialogue and intercultural understanding; know the projects of Top Manta, Mescladís, MigrESS, SOS Racisme, Diàlegs de Dona, Nexes, La Base, while sharing insights about anti-racist and SSE projects that support migrants and promote sustainable, community-driven solutions.
The seminar concluded in La Fede with a presentation from Sara Belbeida, Commissioner for Citizen Relations and Cultural and Religious Diversity of the Barcelona Municipality, emphasising the city’s commitment to inclusion.
The Seminar has been a moment of collective intelligence, passion, and hope. It reinforced the importance of collaborative efforts to reshape migration narratives and create spaces that celebrate diversity. From hands-on learning to thought-provoking exchanges, participants left with strengthened networks, new strategies, and a renewed commitment to inclusive practices.
Nexes Interculturals wants to continue championing intercultural dialogue and inclusion, building on the energy and insights gained from this inspiring event.
