“From 14th to 18th of November I had the chance to attend the seminar “Game Design for Inclusion” organized by the association NUR, partner of Nexes, in Cagliari (Italy) in the framework of the Game On project. We attended about thirty participants from Spain, Serbia, Italy and Lithuania.
The meeting served to expand experiences in the use of game design as an inclusion tool: sharing practices on game design for inclusion, fostering new international linkages and expanding Game On outcomes through the dissemination and multiplication of activities and strategies.
Several of the participants made presentations and workshops online with the Game On project. Gabriele Mari, an experienced educator and author of several edited board games, opened the space for workshops and presentations introducing the theme of inclusiveness in games. There were also workshops on creative techniques for game design processes (dynamized by Dani Gómez) or on how to improve training modules in game design (dynamized by me).
Several presentations by participants revolved around different experiences in table game design. And finally, there were workshops that addressed to different existing games (some in testing phase) as an educational tool and for inclusion, such as the Go Deep Game (dynamized by Giulio Ferretto), the Amazing Island (dynamized by Javi Quílez) or the Participation Game (presented by Ivana Markulic). In total, during the days of the meeting 13 presentations and workshops were held, combined with spaces to exchanges ideas, as well as a small fair and some meetings of Game On partners.
It was a very stimulating experience for every participant! The different contents were also enriched by the intercultural exchange between people of different nationalities, origins and backgrounds. It was also a space to share both professionally and personally, meet fellow project members, strengthen links and network. Thus, partnerships from different countries and projects started to know each other, founding out new games, as ‘LARP’ on global justice and another board game about witches.”
