From 24 to 27 October, Nexes hosted in Barcelona the “Media and Information Literacy (MIL) study visit”, an activity of Salto participation and information.

It has been a very enriching experience with exchanges of information between local organisations and participants!

On the first day, 24th of October, we went to Radio Actius Poble-sec. An inspiring community radio station, which values respect for diversity: cultural, religious, gender, etc.

They approach their mission through messages of feminism, neighbourhood empowerment, coworking and neighbourhood engagement. They have organised social and cultural projects, neighbourhood demands and events in collaboration with other associations.

On the 25th it was the turn of Media.cat, a media channel where its chief editor shared with us recommendations on how to recognise disinformation and fake news. Media.cat is interested in having critical and analytical voices with the media. It currently focuses its work on analysing the media, investigating issues that are silenced, censored or mistreated, and documenting and denouncing possible violations and restrictions of freedom of information and expression.

On the 26th we visited Nexes: after presenting the organisation we organised a session on game-based learning to improve MIL skills. After a visit to La Directa, Migrantour guided our guests to discover the Raval neighbourhood, an emblematic place for being the centre of multiculturalism in the Catalan capital, and listening to the testimonies of our guides on integration issues.

On the 27th of October we ended the Study Visit with Evaldas Rupkus, MIL trainer, freelancer and project manager, who shared his experience and knowledge about youth information, media and critical thinking.

Finally, all partner organisations had a dialogue to exchange views, explain what are the biggest challenges and share tips, talk about how they engage young people and why MIL is one of the main pillars of democratic participation.

These have been fantastic days in which we have talked concretely about interculturality, media and information literacy and in which we hope to have nurtured the ‘information and participation’ of all our partners.

Thanks for all the collaboration and participation of SALTO Participation & Information and all the organisations that made it possible.

You can find the streams of these days on SALTO’s social networks!
